Winners must be in the top 25% of their classes and show qualities of dependability, good character, discipline, patriotism, and leadership ability.
Selection is made by heads of the educational facility.
The grant is a one-time award and recipients are not eligible to re-apply in future years.
The John Hoyle Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) supports education through their chapter-sponsored and national scholarships, contests, and awards.
Each year, a selected topic for use during the academic year is announced, and contest instructions are published online and sent to schools by participating DAR chapters.
The Christopher Columbus Essay Contest is open to students in grades nine through twelve.
The medal may also be awarded to youth service and patriotic organizations.
Interested students should see their teachers, guidance counselors, or contact us for more information. The high school faculty selects three seniors who best demonstrate the qualities of a good citizen in their homes, schools, and communities.
Patriotism Committees give “Community Service Awards” to local citizens who have made outstanding achievements in cultural, educational, humanitarian, patriotic, and citizenship work in their communities.
We work with and recognize others who volunteer their service to our military veterans, and give a “DAR Service for Veterans – Outstanding Youth Volunteer” award to deserving young people.
