She is the universal Mother in the true sense of the term.

Her Missionaries of Charity have branches all over the world.

She has identified herself completely with the poor, the homeless, the diseased, the dying and the helpless.

Her compassion knows no distinction, no ‘ boundaries.

She is all love and compassion, and believes in loving even one’s worst enemy. All her activities and life have been inspired by a vision of humanity living in peace, harmony, freedom and love.

She has done a lot to improve the quality of life of the poor, and the weaker of the weakest sections of the society.Consequently, she became the principal of the school, but ultimately she resigned from the post and plunged herself to serve the whole suffering humanity.The school was too small a place for her all-encompassing love and compassion.People, from all walks of life, prayed for her long life, health, happiness, and sent her hearty greetings.For her long and) outstanding, selfless and dedicated service to the poor, diseased, destitute, orphans, homeless and handicapped men, women and children, she has been heaped upon with many national and international awards, honors and coveted prizes.This calling alongside the preferential option for the poor allowed her to aid the poorest and sickest people in Calcutta.Although she had already taken her vow of obedience as a nun, after two years of testing and discernment Mother Teresa finally received permission to begin her calling.During her first calling from God; to become a nun, she received another calling that forever altered her life as a Catholic.While on a train from Calcutta to Darjeeling for an annual retreat in 1946, Christ spoke to her, pleading “Come be my Light” (Mother Teresa, 1960) and told her to abandon teaching to begin working in the slums of Calcutta aiding the poorest and sickest people.Her selfless service and dedication to the poor is now recognized throughout the world. Soon she became very popular among her students for her love, learning, compassion and devotion to the cause of education of the young.She came to India as a bore to Nun in 1929 and decided to work in Calcutta. It was in 1931 that she came to be called ‘Teresa’.
